Have you been playing Hide and Seek with God?

Let’s do an encouraging word today out of Proverbs chapter eight. Take a look here in Proverbs chapter eight and Look at this here in relationship to seeking God.

Proverbs 8:1–17

1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

2 She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.

3 She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.

4 Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.

5 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

7 For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.

9 They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.

10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

12 I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.

13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.

15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.

16 By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.

17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

And that’s what I want to talk just for a couple of minutes this morning about that verse right there where it says, I love them, that love me, and those that seek me early shall find me.

Did you ever play hide and seek as a kid? Play hide and seek and your buddy or your, you know, brother or sister, whoever you know, they maybe sometimes they get a really good hiding spot and, it’s hard to find them, but you just don’t want to give up. You want to keep looking and looking and looking until you finally can find them. And, sometimes people feel like that’s the way it is with the Lord. Maybe. But the thing is, the Lord’s not hiding from you. The Lord is not hiding from you.

Now. I’m always complaining,  about my wife’s cat. And it is her cat. Make no mistake, no qualms about it. It’s her cat. 150%. I almost got rid of it when we moved. I’m not going to do any harm to the cat on purpose with witnesses, right? but, you know. Hey, you know, Kirk left the door open, and we thought that the cat ran away, and I was like, oh, darn. Kirk’s like, I think your cat ran away. And I’m like, really? My wife wasn’t too happy about that. And then I was over there a couple of days later cleaning up and everything. Even though the apartment complex says that I didn’t clean up afterward and wanted to charge me, you know, a ridiculous amount of money to clean what I’ve already cleaned. I’m a professional cleaner. That’s what I do. But anyway. Neither here nor there, in there, cleaning up and everything. I go to grab something and clean it up around the bottom of the stool in the bathroom. And that stinking cat is hiding behind the toilet. And I thought for a second. I thought for a second maybe I didn’t really see that be somebody else’s problem. But then I was like, I just can’t do it. I just can’t do it.That cat is really good at playing hide and seek, but I found it.

I found it and I complain about it all the time. I was actually complaining about it this morning because it doesn’t matter what. I have a closet. I hang my suits and stuff up in there. It doesn’t matter what I do. This cat, somehow its fur always finds and clings to me no matter what I it’s it’s a conspiracy. It’s a cat conspiracy fur everywhere. No matter what her cat; Does she have fur on her jacket? Of course not. Just me. Just me.

It’s always there. I can’t seem to get away from it no matter what. And that’s something I want to get away from. And that’s probably a really terrible analogy. But the Lord’s word is like that. You’re not going to get away from the Lord’s word. It’s always there. It’s always available. He’s always trying to show you things. He’s always trying to speak to you about things. He wants to be found. Unlike the stupid cat that doesn’t want to be found. Right. Your friends when you’re growing up that really didn’t want to be found until it was too long. Then they got nervous and then they decided they wanted to be found.

The Lord wants to be found. He wants you to find him. He wants you to understand him. He wants you to know him. And that’s why we have his word.
