Three things associated with the vessels of God

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

We must exercise spiritual discernment and be careful that we are vessels sanctified unto honor.

Vessels are used as object lessons for understanding Spiritual truths:

Satan wants to defile the vessels of the Lord

Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand. Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein. Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them. They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

Daniel 5:1-4

Three things associated with being a vessel

Security (2 Tim 2:19)

  • The foundation stands firm

before you can use any vessel, it has to have a firm foundation you have to be able to trust that it will hold up to the task at hand

  • The Rock is our foundation

And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.

Psalm 78:35

Service (2 Tim 2:20)

A vessel doesn’t do any good if it can’t be of service. With service comes responsibility, when you call on the name of the Lord you get security, but you also have a responsibility

Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

Romans 6:12-13

Both types of vessels are in the house (Body of Christ), the distinction is whether or not you depart from iniquity.

For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.

1 Corinthians 3:9–13

Structure (2 Tim 2:22)

Your service as defined by your lifestyle

In the church, there are individuals who honor the Lord as a result of their dedication to follow His truth. These people are useful to the Lord in His work because of their commitment to His Word prepares them for His service. However, there are also Christians who because of their lack of commitment to God’s truth bring dishonor on Him while they seek to be His instruments of service

Four things you will be know for if you avoid sin (2 Tim 2:21)

  1. Vessel of honor
  2. Sanctified (set apart)
  3. Useful to God
  4. Prepared for every good work
