One Thing

Philippians 3:13–14 KJV

13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Some “one things” in the Bible

One thing have I desired of the Lord

Psalm 27:4 KJV

4 One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.

One thing thou lackest

Mark 10:21 KJV

21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

One thing is needful

Luke 10:42 KJV

42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

One thing I know

John 9:25 KJV

25 He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

Specialize

•     We need to devote ourselves to running the Christian race

•     No athlete succeeds by doing everything

•     they specialize

•     The successful concentrate and keep their eyes on the goal and avoid distractions.

•     They are devoted to their calling.

They respond to distractions like Nehemiah

Nehemiah 6:3 KJV

3 And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?

The one thing that Paul did

you can too

Philippians 3:13 KJV

13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

Philippians 3:14 KJV

14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

•     To forget means to no longer be influenced by or affected by

Regrets of the Past

Too many Believers are distracted by the regrets of the past

•     They are running the race by looking backward

•     which causes them to stumble, fall and get in the way of others

Some believers are distracted by the success of the past

•     which is just as bad.

The things which are behind

•     need to be left behind

•     set them aside

•     The things which are before need to take their place.

Do this one thing

Break the power of the past by living for the future.
