What Moves You?

What motivates you to do the things that you do?  What motivates you at work, school or in Some things that should not shake your faigh and some things that should motivate you from Irvington Bible Baptist Churchlife in general?  Stephen Covey in Seven Habits of Highly Effective People said:

If the ladder is not leaning against the right wall, every step we take just gets us to the wrong place faster.

Most people allow themselves to be motivated by all the wrong things:

Three Marks of a Good Leader

Six reasons that people quit

It seems like people are always quitting.  you used to hear about people working for a The six reasons that people quit. A sermon from Irvington Bible Baptist Churchcompany and retiring after 40 years of service.  That does not happen very often anymore.  People do not seem to stick with anything for that length of time these days.  I remember a time when it was uncommon to meet someone who had worked for more than three companies in their careers, now it is unusual to meet someone who hasn’t worked for more than three companies during their employment career.  This also applies to Christians as well.  Christians quit in the ministry far too often.  Let’s look at what I believe are the six main reasons that Continue reading Six reasons that people quit

And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.  And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me.  And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day.  For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD God.  And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them.  And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.  And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they are most rebellious.  But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee.  And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein;  And he spread it before me; and it was written within and without: and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe. – Ezekiel 2:1-10

Four Anchors of the Faith

An anchor is that which gives stability or security; that on which we place dependence for The Four Anchors of the Faith. A Baptist Sermon taught at Irvington Bible Baptist Churchsafety.  We have some anchors in the faith that help to keep us rooted and grounded and keep us from being tossed to and fro when the storms of life assail us.  We are going to look at the four anchors of the faith, that we have as demonstrated by the life of the Apostle Paul, that will keep us rooted and grounded as we journey through this life.

1)  The presence of God (Acts 27:23)

The first anchor that we will look at is the Anchor of the Presence of God in your life.  If you have accepted Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, then the Bible teaches that you have the presence of God within you: Continue reading Four Anchors of the Faith

Canada had switched to the metric system in 1970, and the plane is reported to have been Air Canada’s first aircraft to use metric measurements. The plane’s onboard fuel gauge was not working, so the crew used measuring “dipsticks” to check how much fuel the plane took on during refueling. Things went wrong when they converted this measurement of volume into one of weight. They got the number right, but the unit wrong – mistaking pounds of fuel for kilograms. As a result, the plane was carrying about half as much fuel as they thought. Luckily, the pilot was able Continue reading Infallible Proofs

Five things that every fisherman needs to do

And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the  fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:
And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.
And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him. - Luke 5:1-11

Four ways to handle anger

I have had my own issues in the past with not handling anger very well.  In fact, my wife will tell you that at one time, she was pretty sure that I held the world record for broken Television remote controls.  To this day, I don’t know what they ever did to me, but I bounced them off of theFour ways to handle anger. An Independent Baptist Sermon on anger|Irvington Bible Baptist Church wall, the floor, coffee-table or anything else that I could find.  I had real anger management issues.

Anger, when it is misused, may come and go quickly, but so does a tornado, and just like the aftermath of a tornado, it takes a lot of effort and time to clean up the mess that is left behind.

We tend to believe that anger is always a bad thing, but sometimes it is a sin to not be angry.  In John chapter 2 we see a time that the Lord Jesus Christ got angry.  Angry enough to make a weapon, and we know that Continue reading Four ways to handle anger

In 2 Corinthians chapter 13, the Apostle Paul had some departing words for the local church, that are crucial for us to follow today:

  • Be Perfect
  • Be of Good Comfort
  • Be of One Mind
  • Live in Peace

If we will earnestly strive to accomplish these four things, then our
