The worship of the wise men

Christmas is not about the trees, it’s  not about the lights either; no matter how much you Christmas is about worship. Every Christmas you see manger scenes all over town. They have Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus in a manger along with the animals, angels, shepherds and the wise men. It’s those wise men (Who were never at the manger) that I want to discuss today at Irvington Bible Baptist Churchcan relate to Clark Griswold.  Personally, I don’t have any desire to do a bunch of decorations, but I know that a lot of people do.  That is not what Christmas is about though.  It’s not about all the presents and family get-togethers either.   Christmas is a time that all of these things occur, but Christmas, for a Christian, is all about the fact that God became flesh, and in fulfillment of prophecy was born of a virgin in Bethlehem to live a perfect life that he could sacrifice that life so that we could have eternal life. Six reasons that people quit

It seems like people are always quitting.  you used to hear about people working for a The six reasons that people quit. A sermon from Irvington Bible Baptist Churchcompany and retiring after 40 years of service.  That does not happen very often anymore.  People do not seem to stick with anything for that length of time these days.  I remember a time when it was uncommon to meet someone who had worked for more than three companies in their careers, now it is unusual to meet someone who hasn’t worked for more than three companies during their employment career.  This also applies to Christians as well.  Christians quit in the ministry far too often.  Let’s look at what I believe are the six main reasons that Continue reading Six reasons that people quit

How to be Thankful in Suffering

Every year on the fourth Thursday of November, we set aside a day and a time of Thanksgiving is not just a national holiday where you don't have to go to work; it is not just the day that proceeds Black Friday when people forget all about being thankful and are willing to trample one another over for the best deal.  You will likely find yourself in a setting that involves friends, family, and a lot of good food.  But Thanksgiving is more than that,   It is a day to reflect on being thankful.  Thankful for the good things that have transpired in your life over the last year, and if you are a Christian it is time to be thankful for everything that the Lord has brought you through.  Click through to Irvington Bible Baptist Church for morethanksgiving.  Thanksgiving is not just a national holiday where you don’t have to go to work; it is not just the day that proceeds Black Friday when people forget all about being thankful and are willing to trample one another over for the best deal.  You will likely find yourself in a setting that involves friends, family, and a lot of good food.  But Thanksgiving is more than that; It is a day to reflect on being thankful.  Thankful for the good things that have transpired in your life over the last year, and if you are a Christian, it is time to be thankful for everything that the Lord has brought you through.

False Sense of Security

As Christians, we need to take spiritual threats seriously.  The thoughts that we dwell on are what will dictate the choices that we make.  There is not enough emphasis placed onThe thoughts that we dwell on are what dictate the choices we make. Click through to Irvington Bible Baptist Church for more info the thought life and mindset in society today.  Most people are passive in their response to their thought life.  That is, people don’t protect themselves from their thoughts.  Most Christians believe that they don’t need to worry about what they put in front of their eyes, or what they allow themselves to think and to dwell on, not realizing that your mind is the battlefield between choosing to walk in the spirit or to walk in the flesh.  In order to be victorious in this daily battle you must:

  • Identify the enemy (your mind)
  • Expose the strongholds of that enemy

Help for the Blind

And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.  And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me.  And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day.  For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD God.  And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them.  And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.  And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they are most rebellious.  But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee.  And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein;  And he spread it before me; and it was written within and without: and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe. – Ezekiel 2:1-10
