Breaking Free

In Acts 16, Paul and Silas find themselves in the prison of pain and suffering.  In that prison,Breaking Free: A Baptist sermon from Irvington Bible Baptist Church about breaking out of your prison of pain and suffering. they experienced the grace of God.  This article will point out, by examing this passage, that God can turn pain into praise.  In this podcast, we will discuss Three things to notice about this prison of pain that Paul and Silas experienced.

1.  A place of discomfort

This prison of pain and suffering is a place of discomfort.  Paul and Silas were in the will of God, doing what they were called to do, saying what they were called to say, but still found themselves in a place of discomfort that manifested itself in three different ways: Continue reading Breaking Free

Infallible Proofs

In some areas of life, a small margin of error won’t really make much of difference in the outcome; however, when it comes to your faith, even a small margin of error is In some areas of life, a small margin of error won't really make much of difference in the outcome; however, when it comes to your faith, even a small margin of error is unacceptable. Canada had switched to the metric system in 1970, and the plane is reported to have been Air Canada’s first aircraft to use metric measurements. The plane’s onboard fuel gauge was not working, so the crew used measuring “dipsticks” to check how much fuel the plane took on during refueling. Things went wrong when they converted this measurement of volume into one of weight. They got the number right, but the unit wrong – mistaking pounds of fuel for kilograms. As a result, the plane was carrying about half as much fuel as they thought. Luckily, the pilot was able Continue reading Infallible Proofs

Are You Standing in the Gap?

Irvington Bible Baptist ChurchThe difference in a contribution and total commitment is usually the difference in failure and success. A chicken and a hog were walking past a church building one day when they noticed the Sunday morning sermon posted on the outside bulletin board, “Helping the Poor. ” They walked a ways when the chicken suddenly came across with a suggestion. “Say, Brother Hog, why don’t we give all the poor people a nice breakfast of ham and eggs?” The hog thought a moment and replied, “That’s all right for you to say because for you it is only a contribution, but for me, it’s total commitment!”

The Lord is looking for some people to be committed.  In Ezekiel 22 we find the Jewish people in exile to Babylon.  Ezekiel’s message to them is focusing on the fall of Jerusalem and the cause of the fall.  As we read Chapter 22, we see that the sins that they were guilty of included:

  • Murder
  • Disrespect of Parents
  • Sexual Perversion
  • Contract Murder
  • Forgetting the Lord

It is plain to see our society, Continue reading Are You Standing in the Gap?

Fear Factor

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

– 2 Timothy 1:7

Fear Factor was a T.V. show that aired on NBC from 2001 to 2006 that pitted contestants against each other in a

variety of stunts (usually 3) to win a prize of $50,000.  The show was divided into three segments or Stunts:

  • First segment was usually a physical challenge, such as testing the contestants fear of heights by suspending them from a helicopter while collecting flags or something of that sort.
  • The Second segment would be a Mental challenge, which could be either:
    • an eating challenge, where the contestant would be required to eat something that would generally be considered as gross or disgusting.  Live bugs were often used in this segment.
    • or an Animal challenge, where the contestant would be either partially or completely covered by an animal, such as, snakes, ants, spiders, rats or something similar.
  • The Third segment would usually be an extreme stunt, such as strapping into a car and jumping a ramp or something like that.

The episode would end with a winner and the statement “Evidently, Fear is not a factor for you”.

My hope is that at the conclusion of this Podcast, that you can say that Fear is not a factor for you.

If you allow it too, Fear will control you;  The use of fear as a control technique has proven to be very successful.  People will stand in line volunteering to give up any and all of their rights if fear is successfully employed.

If you are living in the Spirit of Fear, you are not exercising the Spirit of God in your life.  2 Timothy 1:7 tells us that God didn’t give us the Spirit of Fear:

  • Isaiah 43:1
  • John 14:27
  • John 16:33

So who does?

A New Hope

The title of the first Star Wars movie released in 1977.  It opens up with the “good guys” being overtaken by the Evil Empire.  The Empire had just developed a weapon that no one could combat.  There was No Hope of surviving the destruction that this weapon  (Death Star) would bring.

But then you see, that there is Hope. There is a way to defeat their adversary.  There was a plan delivered and a way to obtain the victory.  They now had:

A New Hope!

This film as all others is based on one of only a handful full of different themes that are found in the Bible:

The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:9

In this podcast we are looking at one of these themes:

  • The Empire is represented by the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4).  The weapon is sin;  In the first four chapters of Romans, we see Man’s need for Salvation.  That man is a sinner and under the wrath of God.  We’ve Also seen that man can do nothing to battle this weapon.

Then God’s plan shows up!  In Romans 4 we see how that God will impute his righteousness onto us by Continue reading A New Hope

A Mothers Love

Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.
And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.
But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall
drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.

And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

                                                   – Matthew 20:20-23

In this Podcast:

We will look at the Three things that every Mother can learn from the mother of James and John Zebedee:

  • She wanted her children to be part of the Kingdom of God
  • She wanted her children to be actively involved in the work of the Lord
  • She had big expections for her children

What are Mothers?

What is keeping you from Jesus today?

Many times in life we find ourselves in situations that we didn’t foresee that keep us from fulfilling our objectives.  Sometimes the most routine of agendas turns out to be difficult if not impossible to accomplish.  We can feel trapped in our circumstances and need help to escape.  At other times we may be the help that someone else desperately needs.

When I was young we used to take our annual vacations at Cave City Ky and explored mammoth cave.  One year I couldn’t go, but my Dad and Brother decided to take a spelunking tour.  Complete with knee pads and hard hats.  They had to crawl through some very tight passageways and in one of them my Dad got stuck when he was about half way through.  He said that it was one of the scariest events of his life.  This brings to mind the story of a man by the name of Floyd Collins.

Where is the good way?

Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.
Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

Psalm 25:4-5

Have you ever attempted to give someone driving directions?  Especially someone who is “directionally challenged”?  GPS technology has come a long way, but so many people rely completely on these things.

In this podcast we are going to see how to find the right path:

The Hope of Easter

Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. Irvington Bible Baptist Church
And they entered in, and found not the body of the
Lord Jesus.

And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living1 among the dead?
He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

14 Salient Scriptures that support the doctrine of eternal security

Eternal Security of the Believer

Having Assurance of your Salvation is critical if the Believer is going to be a producIrvington Bible Baptist Churchtive member of the Body of Christ.  Of course, to obtain Assurance of Salvation, you must first accept the free gift of salvation that is being offered to you through the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross.
